Catenary Arch Shelf Bracket Released by John Wright Company

Historic bridge design inspires elegant arch pattern, reflecting Pennsylvania and American heritage

Wrightsville, PA (May 2016)John Wright Company, Inc., a premier designer of heirloom-quality hardware and home accents, released a US-made, cast-aluminum shelf bracket with a unique catenary arch design inspired by central Pennsylvania’s landmark Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge.

John Wright’s Bridge Bracket features a classic Art Nouveau design modeled after the ornate catenary arches of the historic Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge. The bridge, which was completed in 1930, spans the Susquehanna River between Columbia and Wrightsville and is known as one of the longest concrete arch highway bridges in the world. It is a treasured piece of early 20th Century American architecture and is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places.

John Wright’s center of operations sits along the shore of the Susquehanna River overlooking the bridge, which is in large part why this design was chosen. The catenary arches not only provide sound structural support for the shelf bracket, but they reflect Wrightsville’s rich heritage, pride, and beauty.

“The historically-inspired design of this piece is something in which John Wright truly takes pride,” says Brant Hershey, Engineering Manager at John Wright. “This arched form was popular in the US during the early 20th Century for its structural and aesthetic advantages, which is what we strived to capture in the arch bracket’s pattern.”

Each piece also comes standard with baked-on, UV-stable urethane paints for a decorative and weather-resistant surface, which enables both indoor and outdoor use. For a classic, early-American look, the arch bracket is available in black, but alternate colors can be specified. John Wright also offers this piece in a natural aluminum for a very sleek and industrial modern look, perfect for more contemporary homes and gardens.

The retail price of each Bridge Bracket is $53.90. Please note that these pieces are sold individually, so customers are encouraged to specify them in pairs when ordering.
